This month's student spotlight is Brianna Dominguez! Brianna is apart of the Musical Theater competition team and recently competed with great success at Access Broadway! After reading her spotlight interview, watch her platinum winning performance of 'Breathe' from In the Heights here.

1. How long have you been taking classes at Garden Street?

I have been dancing , singing and acting at Garden Street since I was nine years old. (Brianna is 16 now so she has been a student at Garden Street for 7 years!)

2. What made you join the classes?

Around the age of 9, I was very intrigued to learn more about music and how I can get better at singing. My love for music and the performing arts made me want to join vocal lessons and classes at Garden Street.

3. What is your favorite class to take and why?

My favorite class to take at Garden Street is my vocal lessons with Anne Brummel. She has taught me many helpful tricks and exercises to make my voice grow stronger.

4. Why did you decide to join the competition team?

About a year ago, I decided to finally join the competition team. I watch the show Dance Moms and I see how they go to many competitions and I thought that would be a really fun and a great learning experience. I wanted to see how the judges would react to my vocals and what advice they can give me for future performances.

5. Do you have a favorite memory from Access Broadway Regional or Nationals?

Competing at Access Broadway was such a fun filled experience. One of my favorite memories from competition was when we went to nationals and Sara, Georgia and I started belting The Schuyler Sisters from Hamilton in our hotel room!

6. What is your favorite past role at Garden Street and why?

In the past few years at Garden Street I have been in many musical productions. I have to say my favorite role I've ever played at Garden Street was when we did the musical Cats and I got to play Grizabella. Bringing the character to life and literally transforming myself into a cat was one of the coolest things I've ever had to do! I really connected to the character and I got to belt my heart out in the song Memory. This was a role I will never forget playing.

7. What is the hardest part about acting?

I believe the hardest part about acting is being able to connect to a character that is completely out of your range. To be an actor you must make the audience believe the words coming out of your mouth.

8. What advice would you give to other kids looking to get into theater?

The advice I give to people who are interested in theater is to not be afraid to make a fool out of yourself. That is the number one rule, never be shy. Also, most importantly have fun!

9. What are your favorite activities to do outside of Garden Street?

Outside of Garden Street, a few of my favorite things to do is read, hang out with my friends, run track, spend a lot of family time and most importantly, practice, practice, practice!

10. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

In 10 years I see myself graduating college, traveling the world and performing for millions of people because that's what I love to do best, perform!

Fun Fact:

A fun fact about me is that my celebrity crush is Shawn Mendes!
