April 18th Tap Workshop for Special Needs

Garden Street Grows Tap Workshop for Special Needs Children Ages 7 +

DATE: April 18th, 2015 TIME: 2pm-3pm

Both boys and girls are encouraged to join the fun! Garden Street Dance is excited to offer a special Tap Dance Workshop catered to students with disabilities. The workshop will be led by instructor, Jessica Kelly. Jessica received her BS in Early Childhood Special Education and holds both a NYS and NJ Students with Disabilities Teaching License. As a cause very near and dear to her heart, she believes that with the right supports all students should be given the opportunity to be successful. Dance is a creative means of expression which deserves the right to be experienced by all.

Jessica has been tapping since her early years and grew up studying with renowned Tap professionals. Most recently she teamed up with instructor, Christopher Erk and his nonprofit organization, The Tap Factor. Over a series of weeks The Tap Factor teamed up with Best Buddies, a program that strives to include individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in every opportunity they may dream of. Jessica is excited to present a similar experience to the Garden Street Students. In this one hour workshop students will learn basic tap steps in both movement and name, experience the opportunity to improvise and create their own sounds, and learn sample choreography. Students will be given the opportunity to build confidence and take ownership of their dancing in the hopes that each child will come away from this experience with a smile. Garden Street School of the Performing Arts is excited for our first workshop in a few weeks! This workshop is free. To enroll please email Annie at dance@gardenstreetmusic.com We are limited to 8 students. Thank you!
