Kristin Stokes (AEA), has had a
love of the stage for most of her life. This epidemic started at age
8 when she first performed in a show at the local college and then
continued through high school and onward to college, filling her
schedule to the brim with shows. She attended the Pacific
Conservatory of the Performing Arts in Central California, where she
honed her skills as an actress and performance artist. She studied
the essentials: acting, Shakespeare and classical theater, voice and
speech, audition technique, musical theater, and voice; as well as
Suzuki, view points, heroics, IPA, jazz, tap, ballet, and modern
dance.
After graduating from college, Kristin went on to a busy career in
San Francisco where she became a member of the Actors Equity
Association by age 21. She now resides in Brooklyn, NY and continues
to work on both coasts with amazing artists such as Andrew Lippa,
Anna Gasteyer, and Kerrigan and Lowdermilk. Some of her favorite
rolls have included; Sally Bowls (Cabaret), Martha (The Secret
Garden), Ophelia (Hamlet), Helen Keller (The Miracle Worker), The
Witch (Into the Woods), and Sister James (Doubt). Ms. Stokes also
has a love for “new works,” appearing for the last six years in
Theatreworks’ “New Works Festival”, the birthplace of the Tony award
winning show, “Memphis.” She recently finished up a run of their
world premiere musical, “Fly By Night.”
Ms. Stokes also has a great passion for teaching and sharing the
craft of theater with others. She believes in the power of live
performance and story telling, and often finds that joy and passion
spreading to her students. Kristin has taught a variety of age
groups with a wide spectrum of experience. Some of her classes have
included acting for beginners, college audition preparation,
creative play for kids, musical theater and scene study. She has
also worked as a choreographer, acting coach, puppeteer and director
for children’s musical theater.
Kristin has a special love for children’s theatre, having grown up
in it herself and seen her mother develop her own children’s company
to the huge success it is today. She shares her mother’s conviction
that “children’s theater” does not have to mean “bad theater”!
Through the process of rehearsals and performance, she frees her
students’ creativity, develops their skills and nurtures their
confidence, instilling trust and respect for their peers as well as
themselves.
As a constant creator, Ms. Stokes loves to keep herself busy with a
variety of projects, such as the musical group, “Lawrence & Leigh.”
The duo recently released their first EP, performed at the “SXSW”
festival, and released two music videos—one of which is a
stop-motion animation video where she performed the puppetry. For
more info on her band and music visit

also an accomplished baker, yogini, and world traveler.
Ms. Stokes also teaches at “Creative Groove Studios” here in Hoboken
and “Star Struck Theatre” in California. She is thrilled to be a
part of the “Garden Street” family and hopes to inspire and be
inspired here at her new home.
