Brian Knox
Piano, Guitar, Bass, Instructor for all ages. Composer and Recording Engineer.

Brian Knox was born and raised in Minnesota where, from a young age, he got his fingers into every concert, musical, and performing group that was available to him including: orchestras, wind ensembles, jazz bands, garage bands, and choirs. He graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a double major in piano performance and theory/composition. He then went on to earn a master's degree from SUNY Purchase in studio composition; there he studied music production techniques and composing for pop and modern styles.

Brian is pianist, and multi-instrumentalist. He plays bass guitar, guitar, French horn, sings, is a recording engineer, a composer and conductor. He writes and produces his own material and collaborates with other artists whenever possible

As a freelance musician, Brian performs regularly with various rock, blues, funk, and party bands in the NYC area. For the past seven years, Brian has been a member of the Stingers, a premier event band in the New York area, and has been a part of some very notable performances including: the queen of Morocco’s birthday party at the palace in Rabat, Morocco; Howard Stern and Beth Ostrosky’s wedding at Le Cirque; Alzheimer’s Foundation benefit at the Waldorf-Astoria; and other similar events.

One of Brian’s favorite projects is to write music for films. He has scored three short films and one feature length film, which contains three of his original songs. His latest project, The Moment I Died, has been accepted to the Barcelona Film Festival and will be on display at an art gallery in Miami in November of 2009.

Teaching runs in Brian’s family; his father, mother, sister, brother all have or have had a career in teaching. Since his mother is a retired elementary music teacher, Brian was possibly used as a guinea pig for her lesson plans. As he got older, his mother’s pedagogical experience began to transfer to him, and all of the fun lessons, silly songs and patience to deal with twenty ten-year olds with recorders made sense. Brian has been teaching private music lessons and classes since he started college. Brian is a fantastic music teacher and works very well with children and adults. He has been adjunct faculty at Purchase and the County College of Morris and was a lecturer at SUNY Oneonta. Able to readily adjust teaching styles to match the students’ need, Brian is comfortable teaching any age, from 8 to 88! (and older.)
